Waiting on God | EncountersofHOPE.com

I have two small dogs that have grown very fond of the smell of chicken.  Whenever I cook it, I always give them a few pieces as a treat for being good boys.  This one particular day, I had just taken some out of the oven and set it on the counter.  It must have smelt extra tasty because they were jumping up and down like they were on a trampoline.  They were overly excited to say the least.  The chicken was very hot and I was waiting for it to cool so it didn’t burn their mouths.  As they were performing wild, bouncing circus tricks, I remember looking down at them smiling and thinking “you have to wait because I love you and don’t want to see you hurt.”  In that very moment, I felt Jesus reminding me of times when I wanted something right then, not knowing that what I wanted at that very moment had He given it to me would have hurt me.   How many times has He told me “you have to wait because I love you and don’t want to see you hurt.”  How many times do we beg and plead for Him to give us what we want…exactly when we ask?   Why is it that we forget He is sovereign?  Job 28:24 says “He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.”  I sometimes forget that His seat is in the throne room of heaven.  He has a far greater perspective on my life than I even will.

Deuteronomy 31:8 is a great reminder that says “The Lord himself goes before you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”  There have been times when I have not waited and I was discouraged, dating the wrong guy for example.  Had I listened to God and fully submitted my life to Him, I could have saved myself the hurt that He wanted to protect me from.  As it turns out, I waited 32 years for my husband to come knocking on my door and he waited 38 for me.  I can honestly say, I am thankful and so very grateful that God made me wait.  I learned a lot about myself during all those single years, but more important, I learned what it meant to have a real relationship with Christ.

Wait.  Wait on God.  At every juncture in my life, when I have waited on Him and waited on His plan to unfold, every time  it is far better, abundantly greater, and always exceeds my expectations and plans!  Remember His position and His vantage point.  Remember that He goes before you.  He knows the future.  And best of all He has a plan.

Pray.  Pray for him to show you His plan for your life, to guide you through those moments when you are impatient and discouraged.  He loves you and wants to show you His will probably even more than you want to know it.

Wait. And expect great things!
